Hi there, EvolGarlic here from the EvolGarlic's Gumbo Blogletter, Here's another cup of article to serve you this Monday.

Summer? Last time I talked about it was the article in the Modern Caveman Self-care series, and the search for the cooling powder, but this time, I'll talk about something else related to summer.

Despite being the month of June, the weather is still "Hot" on some days, the same unbearable hot weather that leaves you sweating and gasping for water, yeah it might be raining on some days, but when it's hot, it's hot like it was ignoring all the rain.

While any soda or soft drink will do, like your you-know-what soda, there's something else that can refresh but not leave you burping loudly.

And one brand of drink I have enjoyed drinking anytime was the white and blue dots drinks known as Calpis (Also known as Calpis Lacto in my country and Calpico) the drink with the taste of the bubbly summers, and a little benefit of something.

Calpis is one of the favorites, it tastes good, soft yet a lot better than soda, and while Calpis has tons of flavors to choose from, that original taste is still good.

But before it became a calpis that I know and love today, the history of how it was born into the earth was something else.

In 1902, the adventurer man known as Kaiun Mishima, traveled to Mongolia, but while he was there, his stomach was in turmoil. Until the drink called Airag, the cultured milk product with a lactobacilli bacteria responsible for that taste, cured his tummy to the normal stage.

With the taste stuck, Mishima set out to do that drink but in his own version, and after many fumbled attempts, Calpis finally debuted on July 7 1919, Tanabata day.

People hooked on the diluted Calpis with the water, it tastes unlike anything else, and soon, Calpis is synonymous with a drink for the special occasion, or a gift, until 1965, when Calpis is finally acknowledged as a household drink.

With their iconic color of white background and the blue dots, Calpis soon bloomed in the market, expanded its favour in the late 50s, and the carbonated Calpis known as Calpis soda is also in the market.

That popularity hit the Thailand market, but as Calpico first, and then the name was changed to Calpis Lacto when relaunched in somewhere between 2008.

Today, Calpis is still a good old-fashioned taste for someone who wants to calm their taste buds down, and one of those people is me.

Hi there, it's the classic EvolGarlic's Product Reviews, and in this article, it's time to review the classic yet loveable, taste cheeky yet benefiting Calpis, in its original flavor, and see if it's as good as my taste bud tells me?

Here are the factors used to review products under the topic of "Bottled Drink" in the EvolGarlic's Product Review :

Packaging = 25 points
Taste = 25 points
Uniqueness = 25 points
Price = 25 points.

Packaging.

Calpis? Of course, their packaging is iconic and easy to spot.

With the iconic white background and the blue dots, it is Calpis.

Definitely 25 points, easy to spot.

Taste.

This part is a little bit tricky to navigate with, but here's the thing about it.

What I am drinking is the Thai version, which might be different from the original ones, but the taste is very good, mostly a sour milk taste, but in a gentle way, sweet at a middle level, not just a bashing one.

Tangy and flavorful, and it's a cheeky taste that I can chug or sip.

25 points.

Uniqueness.

Again, like the last factor, it's a complicated thing, but this version I drank has a little bit of uniqueness in it.

Lactobacillus inside it is what I suspected it to be the original quirks, but it also has 5,000 mg of fiber and no added sugar in it.

Which is contributing to the taste, a little bit sweet but not that much, and it is actually beneficial.

25 points.

Price.

For the bliss in the bottle known as Calpis, the price you paid for this fine drink is 22 baht, which is up 2 baht from years ago.

What makes the price so perfect is that, even if it goes up, it is the best alternative to other soft drinks, in my case, I choose it because sometimes I don't want a fizzy drink to cure the blues of whatever I faced, and I don't want tea, Calpis Lacto is a fine choice.

25 points!

When all the scores in each factor are combined, EvolGarlic's Product Review is proud to give Calpis Lacto Original Favor: 100 overall points.

To sum it up :

Calpis Lacto is what I am proud to be a fan of, and in this version, with less sugar to not spike me up, this bliss in the bottle is the absolutely must for any kind of season to drink it.

But don't overdo it, just one a day or occasionally is fine, enjoy the bliss in just one bottle is enough.

That's all from the EvolGarlic's Product Review, see you in the next edition!.
